Activity 6 - Geography

1. Green buildings refers to a structure and using process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle. Buildings materials must be environmentally friendly.

2. Green designs:


Dual flush toilets - Dual flush toilets have two settings that use different amounts of water.

Solar panels - Solar panels used on roofs generate electricity using sun light

Thick tiles in home - Thick tiles in home will store heat from underfloor heating for much longer, resulting in less time that underfloor heating needs to be on.

Green walls and roofs - Green walls and roofs absorb CO2 from the air resulting in less acid rain.

Skylight - Skylights provide light during the day that resutls in less electricity used for lights.

Thatch roof - keeps cool and also keeps heat in


Pool cover - doesnt evaporate, dont need to use chemicals because bacteria need sunlight, traps heat

Dry walling - doesnt use soil


North facing walls - have big windows on north facing and small windows on south facing

Electric water heat - solar

Blackout window that results in a lot of electricity use

Airconditioning

Florecent light

Floodlights / lights

Small windows
